Teradata recognized in data warehouse ranking

Gartner, Inc. has put Teradata Corp. in the “leaders quadrant” in its 2009 “Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems,” Miami Twp.-based Teradata announced today, Feb. 8.

The quadrant depicts Gartner’s analysis of “how certain vendors measure against criteria for that marketplace, as defined by Gartner,” Teradata said. The report does not advise companies to hire only vendors in the quadrant, Teradata said.

The report is aimed at corporate chief information officers, Teradata said. Other companies so recognized this year include IBM, Oracle and Netezza, according to an online analysis of the report.

“Teradata is No. 1, Oracle is No. 2, and IBM is No. 3, with the first two if anything slightly extending their leads,” wrote blogger Curt Monash at dbms2.com, a site devoted to database and analytic technologies.

Teradata calls itself the “world’s largest company solely focused on raising intelligence and achieving enterprise agility through its database software, enterprise data warehousing, data warehouse appliances, consulting, and enterprise analytics.” It has about 400 local employees in its headquarters based off Ohio 741.
