Teradata software provides direct ‘big data’ access

Teradata, a Miami Twp.-based data analytics company, on Tuesday announced that its Aster SQL-H software is the first to offer business analysts direct, self-service access to “big data” sets stored in Apache Hadoop.

The software provides a software access method for easy analysis of data stored in Hadoop.

Business users are demanding more access to big data analytics, said Scott Gnau, president of Teradata Labs. “Aster SQL-H is a significant advancement for business analysts trying to utilize raw, multi-structured data in Hadoop files to develop new insights for competitive advantage,” he said.

Aster SQL-H is a feature of Aster Database 5.0 software, which will be generally available in the third quarter of 2012, officials said. For more information, visit asterdata.com/sqlh.

Teradata has about 400 Dayton-area employees and about 8,000 employees globally.
