Two new Mexican restaurants to open in Dayton area

The restaurant building at 4139 Wilmington Pike that has been vacant for more than a year has been leased and is scheduled to reopen as an El Rancho Grande Mexican restaurant perhaps as early as mid-August, El Rancho Grande President of Operations Gary Rodriguez said this morning.

The restaurant is located on Wilmington Pike just south of East Stroop Road, in a building that formerly housed Grindstone Charley’s, and most recently, Crocodile Louie’s. It will be the sixth Dayton-area El Rancho Grande, and the 15th overall for the Cincinnati-based chain.

Rodriguez said the chain is close to signing a lease to open a seventh Dayton-area location on Brown Street near the University of Dayton.

For the new Kettering location, El Rancho Grande has signed a five-year lease with an option to purchase, Rodriguez said. The restaurant will open with about 26 employees, and will seat about 135 inside and about 35 on a newly expanded patio.

Workers are clearing brush and tree branches from the property and will turn their attention to remodeling the building’s interior and making improvements to the parking lot, Rodriguez said.

“We are hoping to open in mid-August,” Rodriguez said.
