• Time Warner Cable is unveiling
what it says is the area’s fastest residential Internet service.
Time Warner Cable Wideband Internet is available across most of the company’s Dayton and Cincinnati service areas, including Butler and Warren counties, said Mike Pedelty, spokesman for the Blue Ash office of Time Warner Cable. Wideband features speeds of up to 50 megabits per second (Mbps) downstream and 5 Mbps upstream, the company said in a statement.
By comparison, Wideband is a “thousand times faster” than dial-up service — once the standard several years ago, said Pedelty.
Time Warner’s Road Runner “light” service measures 768 kilobits per second downstream by 128 kilobits upstream, Pedelty said. Standard Road Runner service is 7 megabits per second by 512 kilobits, he said.
Wideband by itself is priced at $99.95 per month, but Time Warner offers savings when the service is bundled with other offerings, Pedelty said.
“The most practical application is the sharing of bandwidth,” he said. “If a home has multiple devices used simultaneously, a standard connection would strain under the demands.”
The company is also launching Road Runner Extreme, which offers 30 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream for $69.90 per month.
