Wright State center gets $16.5K from GE Capital Retail Bank

A Wright State University economic education center has received $16,500 from GE Capital Retail Bank for scholarships to enhance the financial literacy of students in a 15-county area, university officials said.

The majority of the 41 recipients are teachers from low- to moderate-income school districts who are completing a graduate-level economics course through the Wright State Raj Soin College of Business Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy. The center offers a financial literacy program developed for K-12 teachers and students to meet learning goals established by the Ohio Department of Education, officials said.

The scholarships will enable teachers to educate students about important money management skills, according to bank officials.

The course covers topics that include the history of credit, credit reports and credit scores, credit scams and fraud, and the importance of managing credit wisely, school officials said.
