Xenia trucking company files for bankruptcy

DAYTON — Barko Enterprises, Inc., which does business at 2039 Bellbrook Ave. in Xenia, has filed a Chapter 7 petition in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

The trucking company listed no assets and liabilities of $935,800 in the March 4 filing. It reported business income of $154,681 in 2008, $94,911 in 2009, and provided no income information for 2010.

Tim Hatton, an attorney whose firm represents Barko, said the tough economy and litigation both hurt the business. The company had been dealing with several civil lawsuits in Xenia Municipal Court, Greene County Common Pleas Court, and U.S. District Court (Southern District in Dayton).

For example, FT Express, which principally does business in California, claimed in the 2008 U.S. District Court lawsuit that Barko Enterprises diminished the amount it appeared Barko owed FT Express through a joint venture.

Hatton said Barko has been closed for months now.

Chapter 7 filings usually lead to the liquidation of a company.
