Finished basement creates more living space

Contributing Writer

An addition off the back of this two-story home opened up the original floor plan, and a finished basement allows for potential living space.

Listed for $209,000 by J.L. Zimmerman Realty, the brick-and-cedar home at 3614 Knollwood Drive in Beavercreek has about 2,260 square feet of living space plus the basement. Recent updates made to the house include neutral carpeting on the second level and staircase, wood-laminate flooring within the living room and neutral interior paint.

Formal entry opens directly into the living room with wood-laminate flooring and a picture window. The staircase to the upstairs is tucked behind the front door opening.

Two walkways lead to two parts of the back half of the house. One leads to the hallway, which has the laundry room, a half bathroom with pedestal sink, access to the garage and the basement. The other walkway leads into the breakfast room, which is open to the sunken family room.

One step down off the breakfast room leads into the family room, which has a wood-beam accented cathedral ceiling and a stone, wood-burning fireplace. The fireplace has a raised stone hearth that stretches across the wall and a wood-beam mantel.

Patio doors open to a covered patio. The patio is screen-enclosed with a vaulted ceiling and skylights. A door opens to the fenced back yard.

An extended, peninsula countertop acts as a breakfast bar setting on the family room side and extends under hanging cabinetry into the kitchen, which is U-shaped in design. A second peninsula countertop offsets the kitchen from the dining room. The kitchen has painted cabinetry that includes a buffet counter and planning desk. There is a cooktop, wall oven, dishwasher and refrigerator.

Upstairs are four bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The main bedroom is located at the front of the house and has a walk-in closet and a private bathroom with a ceramic-tile surround walk-in shower and a single-sink vanity.

The guest bath has a double-sink vanity and a tub/shower. The bedrooms have ceiling paddle fans, updated carpeting, and doubled sliding-door closets.

The basement has been finished into two rooms separated by a partial wall. The larger room has a full wall of built-in bookcases while the smaller room has a wall of artwork nooks. There is carpeting and recessed lighting.

There is an unfinished room where the mechanicals are located as well as a wash tub and some storage.
