Dayton police are asking anyone with information on an SUV involved in a deadly hit-and-run pedestrian strike to reach out to investigators.

Around 11:22 p.m. Friday, 52-year-old Malik Mize of Dayton was crossing the street at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and North Main Street when he was hit by a vehicle, according to a crash report filed by the Dayton Police Department.

Mize was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

He was in the crosswalk and crossing the street against the red walk signal at the time of the crash, according to the report.

The vehicle, a black or dark colored SUV, reportedly fled the scene. The SUV likely has front end damage, according to police.

Anyone with information on the crash or suspect vehicle should call Detective Timothy Rizer at 937-333-1142 or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 937-222-STOP (7867).

There now have been at least 71 pedestrian-related crashes — four fatal — in Montgomery County so far this year, according to data from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
