Not so many years ago, he was singing for tips in Second Avenue bars and soaking up country mus+ic history at his day job, working in the videotape copy room, at the late, great Nashville Network. Today he's among the most successful and relevant country singers in the business. Dierks Bentley has brought twang, romance and wit to the charts with ten top ten singles, including five number one’s and rare musical nuance to his albums, all three of which have reached or are about to reach the coveted platinum plateau.
He releases his first greatest hits album in May 2008, just five years into his major label career. All of which is testimony that Dierks has done things differently, taken charge of his own career and pledged allegiance to his fans. With six Grammy nominations and a trove of CMA, ACM and CMT awards, Dierks Bentley is looking forward to the kind of career his heroes had: a long one. As part of Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker changed the face of mainstream pop music in the mid-'90s. After the band decided to take a break from recording and the road, Rucker used the time wisely to start a solo career. On Learn to Live, his first project for Capitol Records Nashville, Rucker has created a work that is steeped in the country traditions of meaningful lyrics and resonant melodies, yet sounds completely modern.
“This CD is a journey,” Rucker says. “I realized I’m 42, I’m not going to write many songs about drinking, chasing girls or booty calls. I was going to write songs about having kids and stuff – songs about life.” Guests on the album include Brad Paisley on then humorous “All I Want” and Vince Gill and Alison Krauss on the inspirational “If I Had Wings.” For more information on Darius Rucker, please visit www.dariusrucker.com.
