Would you drive 60 miles for a bigger Big Mac?

McDonald’s is testing two new versions of the classic Big Mac in all 127 of its restaurants in the Columbus area as well as several locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The two new sandwiches are the Grand Mac and Mac Jr.

The classic Big Mac features two beef patties, each 1/10 of a pound. The Grand Mac, on the other hand, contains two patties, each 1/6 of a pound, for a total of 1/3 pound of 100 percent beef.

The Mac Jr. is a single-patty version of the Grand Mac.

The testing “was a response form customers who have loved the Big Mac for 40-plus years and have asked for some variations,” said Phil Saken, the communications manager for the Ohio Region of McDonald’s.

“I can only speak for the Columbus market, and what I understand is the customers are loving it in central Ohio,” Saken said.

“There’s great representation in central Ohio of the entire nation in terms of tastes, diversity and preferences,” Saken added. “It’s a wonderful market for trying innovation.”
