"Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band" is a documentary and so much more.

The film includes archival footage of performances from The Band as well as interview clips with the members.

It’s a chance to see personal pictures, home movies and to hear first hand accounts of Rock history.

The movie begins with Robbie’s childhood, through touring with Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan, to “The Basement Tapes”, “Music From Big Pink” right up to “The Last Waltz” and so much more.

In the movie Robbie continues the storytelling he did in his songs and his book “Testimony” as he is the on screen narrator in a tale that’s been called “confessional, cautionary, and occasionally humorous”.

Along with members of The Band you’ll hear from others including Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Martin Scorsese, Peter Gabriel, Taj Mahal, Dominique Robertson, Ronnie Hawkins, and more.

Give a listen to the conversation Robbie and I had about the film below.

Below that you can watch the video of the song “Once Were Brothers” as well as the trailer for the film.

During our conversation Robbie mentioned his album “Sinematic”.
