Dayton rocker earns major music award

A Dayton rock goddess can add a major award to her list of accomplishments.

Kelley Deal of Breeders and R.Ring fame recently received the Q Gibson Les Paul Award at the 2017 Q Awards.

Deal, a champion of Obamacare, is currently on tour with her sister Kim and other members of the Breeders.

The Q Awards are one of the United Kingdom’s largest music awards it is run by Q magazine and sponsored by the Gibson Brands in association with Absolute Radio.

Launched in 1990, the award honors “guitar playing and innovation through the association with the iconic Les Paul guitar.”

The Edge from U2 won the 2016 Q Gibson Les Paul Award

Other winners of the award include Billy Gibbons of ZZ TopBlack Sabbath's Tony Iommi and Fleetwood Mac's Peter Green.

"From her work with the Breeders and beyond, Deal has created powerful, inspiring rock music and served as a positive influence for young women looking to get into the music field."
