Today’s episode of the Ellen Degeneres show features an interview and performance from a Ohio native that will inspire you. On today’s show Ellen welcomes 19-year-old pianist Darrius Simmons from Warren, Ohio. Darrius was born with four fingers and has prosthetic legs. After being rejected from his high school football team, he decided to learn the piano using an old keyboard. Darrius is now studying music on a full ride scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music.

Darrius gets emotional talking about his single mom, Tammy, who he considers his “guardian angel.” Last year, they had to move out of their family home because their roof collapsed, and they couldn’t afford the repairs. His dream is to one day buy her a house and a new car.
