Woodstock 50th anniversary tribute part of free summer concert series

A tribute marking the 50th anniversary of Woodstock and the musical sounds of Celtic, country, hip hop, jazz, Motown, pop, rock and R&B will be featured at free concerts at Miamisburg’s Riverfront Park starting in June.

All are part of the city of Miamisburg’s Star City Concert Series, which runs each Sunday evening from June 9 through Aug. 25. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

The park is at 3 N. Miami Ave. in downtown Miamisburg and free parking is available. The lineup, according to the city, is:

•June 9: 6 p.m.:The Star City Community Band: Director Steve Aylward’s group features hit movie scores, jazz and Broadway tunes; 7 p.m.: Funky G and the Groove Machine plays R&B, funk and hip hop.

•June 16: Flatout is known for traditional and new country music and a little rock and roll thrown in.

•June 23: Southbound features songs by The Beatles and ‘70s rock groups such as The Allman Brothers Band, The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

•June 30: Hey There Morgan plays classic and contemporary rock from artists such as Prince, Bruno Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Keys and Toto.

•July 7: 5 p.m.: The Kettering Civic Band kicks off the entertainment for the traditional Ice Cream Social, followed by The Miami Valley Music Men at 6:15 p.m. and the Star City Community Band at 7:30 p.m.

•July 14: Leroy Ellington Band’s eight-piece ensemble plays R&B, funk, pop and rock.

•July 21: Full Frontal performs rock, hip hop, and pop from bands like Sublime, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars and Prince.

•July 28: Soul Express covers the Motown sound with hits by the likes of The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, the Four Tops, Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding.

•Aug. 4: Dave Greer’s Classic Jazz Stompers features classic jazz, playing songs from the late 1920s and early 1930s.

•Aug. 11: Dulahan is known for contemporary and traditional Celtic music accompanied by Irish step dancers.

•Aug. 18: 5 p.m.: A four-hour Woodstock 50th Anniversary celebration kicks off with the Miamisburg High School Marching Band, followed by the acoustic rock/folk band The Milos. The headlining Devonshires take the stage at 7 p.m. performing the sounds of bands such as The Who, Styx, The Doors, Led Zeppelin and The Moody Blues.

•Aug. 25: 6 p.m.: The Naked Karate Girls features entertainment for all ages.
