“The X has really been awesome to us,” Rigmaiden said. “They play us every Sunday on the local show, and they’re asking for the new stuff.”
“I thought all the radio support was gone for local bands, but The X has brought it back,” Miller said. “We’ve gotten so much response from it.”
That’s not the only support C.O.P. has received from the radio station. On Sept. 13, the group performed on the local stage at X-Fest 2K9 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.
This was the second year C.O.P. was selected for the local X stage, but the first time the group has performed there. Last year’s set never happened for the band because the festival was cancelled due to high winds from Hurricane Ike.
“This year was a lot better than we expected,” Miller said. “It was long awaited, and it turned out 10 times better than I expected.”
In addition to the opportunity to perform in front of more than 800 people on the local stage, X-Fest also held special meaning for Miller, who was invited to join C.O.P. at the festival two years earlier.
“We had just watched Fluwid play on the local stage,” Miller said. We were walking back and I ran into Cameron. I was kind of pumped up, and I was like, ‘Man, I wish I could play on that stage.’ He said, ‘You know, if you join up with us, next year that can be us.’ ”
On Saturday, Oct. 3, C.O.P. will ride the momentum of X-Fest into JD Legends in Franklin to celebrate the release of the group’s slamming new EP, “Alive and Dying.” The material was recorded by Rob Nadler at OLS Productions in Cincinnati, who gave radio-ready songs like “Dissolution” and “Poisonous Well” a polished, heavy sound.
