BEER BASH: Warped Wing brewery to celebrate 4th Anniversary in style

It’s been a rather eventful first four years for downtown Dayton’s Warped Wing Brewing Company, and the brewery is hosting a “4th Anniversary Beer Bash” from noon to 6 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 13, to celebrate.

The party at the brewery at 26 Wyandot St. will be highlighted by a triple bottle release of different takes on Warped Wing’s anniversary beer, Baltic Argonaut Porter. The version include Baltic Argonaut aged in Rum barrels, in Port barrels, and in Rye Whiskey barrels. Bottle sales start at noon and each 375-milliliter (12.7-ounce) bottle will cost $9.99. Sales of the Rum Barrel Aged Baltic Argonaut will be capped at four bottles; there will be a 12-bottle limit on the Port Barrel and Rye Whiskey barrel-aged variants.

Warped Wing opened its doors in January 2014, and less than a year later, the brewery signed a lease on a second facility north of downtown to accommodate the stronger-than-projected sales of its beers, both in kegs and in pint cans for retail sales. A restaurant, the Spent Grain Grill, opened inside the brewery in 2015.

In 2016, three new 120-barrel fermentation tanks, each with a capacity of about 3,700 gallons, were installed at the brewery to boost production capacity.

In 2017, the brewery transitioned from pint cans to 12-ounce cans, and it launched a Flyer Red lager along with several other new brews. In November 2017, The Festival of Barrel Aged Beers (FOBAB), a Chicago-based beer competition that drew entries from more than 200 breweries in its 15th year, awarded Warped Wing its gold medal in the Other Pale Beer category for the brewery’s Chardonnay Barn Gang, a saison-style farmhouse ale aged in chardonnay barrels. The brewery’s release last month of Whiskey Rebellion barrel-aged stout in 12.7-ounce bottles was met with considerable enthusiasm, with bottles selling out at the brewery in the first two hours.

Warped Wing’s owners have expressed interest in establishing a presence in the Arcade in downtown Dayton as part of its future expansion plans, if re-development plans for the long-shuttered property are successful.
