How to get out and help with tornado relief this weekend

Volunteers are expected to continue their efforts across the communities in Montgomery, Greene and Miami counties that were pounded by a record tornado outbreak on Memorial Day night.

Many groups have organized aid efforts again this weekend, the fourth since 15 tornadoes, ranging in strength from EF0 to EF4, were confirmed in the region.

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley emphasized the importance of volunteerism, and said the momentum needs to continue. “We know this is going to be a long-term recovery. We will need volunteers throughout the summer,” she said.

Since the tornadoes hit, the community has stepped up to help with donations of money, supplies, food and water. Churches, nonprofits and volunteers from across the region and beyond have rolled up their sleeves and have helped with the distribution of supplies, cleaned up debris and hauled it away.
