Intriguing, provocative and relatable stories of acceptance, ambition, hope, regret and romance provide the framework for the 11th annual Dayton LGBT Film Festival opening Friday, Oct. 7 at the newly refurbished Neon Movies.

For the first time in festival history, its opening night film, “Retake,” quickly merited a second screening due to high demand. Directed by Nick Corporon with cinematography by Dayton native Collin Brazie, “Retake” tells a story of connection between a lonely, middle-aged man journeying on a road trip to the Grand Canyon with a San Francisco prostitute. Events ultimately reveal an eye-opening look at a lovelorn past. The film stars Tuc Watkins whose TV credits include “One Life to Live,” “Beggars and Choosers” and “Desperate Housewives.”

Also noteworthy within the lineup are the popular Top Drawer Shorts (a mix of seven short films ranging in scope from country music to Alzheimer’s), the transgender documentary “Real Boy,” the coming of age drama “First Girl I Loved,” and buzzworthy thriller “King Cobra.” “First Girl I Loved,” starring Dylan Gelula of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” notably received the “Best of NEXT Audience Award” at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. “King Cobra,” based on the life of gay porn actor Sean Paul Lockhart (a.k.a. Brent Corrigan) and Andrew E. Stoner and Peter A. Conway’s novel “Cobra Killer,” particularly stars James Franco, Christian Slater, Alicia Silverstone and Molly Ringwald.
