Sellout will guarantee UD Arena attendance record Wednesday

Mark has stood since arena opened in 1969-70 season

The Dayton Flyers will break an attendance record that has stood since UD Arena opened in the 1969-70 season when they play Virginia Commonwealth at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The record is a sure thing because the Senior Night game is sold out. A crowd of 13,455 will bring the total attendance in 16 home games to 208,291. The average attendance for the season will be 13,018.

The record of 12,982 was set in 15 games. Last season, UD came close to the mark, averaging 12,942.

“When you think about the arena,” Dayton coach Archie Miller said Monday, “and the storied tradition and the fantastic teams that have been put on the floor not just in the last few years but for decades and decades, you think of where we are with the momentum of our fan base and it makes you proud. It makes our players proud.”
