1. GREEK FESTIVAL

The Greek Festival began in 1958 as a picnic for parishioners at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 500 Belmonte Park North, Dayton. It quickly grew into a massive community event known for its focus on Greek culture through traditional music and dancing and authentic food such as pastitsio, gyros and moussaka.

The annual fest, which returns to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Friday through Sunday, Sept. 11 through 13, features tours of the Byzantine-style church and children’s entertainment. Music will be provided by the Greek Tycoons. Did we mention the incredible Greek food?

Greek Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Cost: Free from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and $2 the rest of the weekend. Admission is free for children younger than 12. Call 937-224-0601 or visit www.daytongreekfestival.com.

Italian Fall Festa, which features food, entertainment and games, runs from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Cost: Free.
