The 14th annual Cares for Kids Radiothon to benefit Dayton Children’s was another success this past week. You can count on every dollar you donated staying right here in the Miami Valley, to buy much needed life-saving equipment, and the smaller the patient, the bigger the cost of the technology.
Most of us will never plan to use Dayton Children’s, and if you’ve never had to go there, good for you. But if you’ve ever had a child wake you up in the middle of the night with a spiked fever, or a boy smacked with a line drive resulting in a broken arm, or God forbid, a little girl who didn’t feel like eating lunch at school lead to a leukemia diagnosis, how lucky are we to have this hospital, specializing in the care of kids, right here in the Miami Valley.
You don’t have to drive for hours or go to another state. You don’t have worry about Dayton Children’s being closed or turning you away because you can’t afford it. You don’t have to worry about your little one being treated with big people equipment that’s been modified for them.
While the medical center has seen more than its share of tears and sorrow, it’s heard even more laughter and rejoicing. Dayton Children’s is a place where kids get better. I am thankful that all of us at Cox Media Group were able to tell you about this terrific facility, on the radio, WHIO-TV and here, in the Dayton Daily News. And I am even more grateful and indebted to you, our listeners, viewers and readers, for opening your hearts and wallets to keep Dayton Children’s the best it can be for our children.
As you go “over the river and through the woods” this holiday season, if your journey takes you down Route 4 approaching downtown, or maybe driving by on Valley Street, take a second to notice Dayton Children’s Medical Center at One Children’s Plaza and say, “Thank you.” I know I will.
