SPRINGBORO — One of the Miami Valley’s more interesting fundraisers is set to take place Saturday night when the American Cancer Society presents Dayton’s fourth annual Cattle Baron’s Ball.

Often a beautiful private home in the area plays host to the upscale event featuring guests dressed in fancy western attire.

This year’s gathering will be at the Springboro home of honorary co-chairs William Hagerty and Colleen Maples.

“The Hagertys are committed to fighting back against cancer. All four of their parents were affected by cancer,” said Mike Rogers, American Cancer Society director of distinguished giving. “The couple has long been a supporter of the American Cancer Society and is determined to help raise funds to find cures.”

The special evening includes mechanical bull riding, a western raffle, silent and live auction, Tex-Mex dinner, hot-air balloon rides and live country western entertainment. Emcee for the night is James Brown of WHIO-TV.

A moving portion of the evening highlights cancer victims and survivors. Dollars raised at the event will help local residents stay well, get well, find cures and fight back against cancer.

“Any cancer patients or caregivers in need of assistance can contact the American Cancer Society at (800) 227-2345 for free help, information and support,” Rogers. said “These services are available at no charge, thanks to our supporters, including those who are participating in the Dayton Cattle Baron’s Ball.”
