DIY under $10: carved candle

Do you have an anniversary or want to commemorate a special moment in your relationship? Create this fun and whimsical gift idea. It takes little time, but it can be personalized for your needs.

Supplies needed

Items I purchased:

• 1 cream colored candle — $3.99 at CVS

• 1 gold sharpie oil-based paint pen — $1.47 at Home Depot

Items I already had:

• Wooden block

• Pen

Directions

1. Using your old pen (one that no longer writes), sketch a heart onto the side of your candle. Inside of the heart add the two initials you want to use. If you are not comfortable freehanding this, you can print out a template on your computer and trace it onto your candle.

2. Trace over your outline multiple times so it is wide enough to paint and deep enough to easily hold the paint.

3. Once you are happy with your carving, take your paint pen and trace over your etching. It is OK if it looks a little sloppy because you want it to look textured.

4. Let dry completely and your customized candle is ready to be displayed.

5. You can display this on a piece of wood to add a bit of nature to your craft.
