It can also be used outside for other insects.
Supplies needed
Items I purchased:
• Battery-powered LED touch light — $5 at Home Depot
Items I already had:
• Kitchen knife
• Scissors
• Empty plastic 2-liter bottle (clear plastic)
• Electrical tape
Directions
1. Take your serrated knife and place a knick right above the label of your 2-liter bottle.
2. Once you have a slit made, take your scissors and cut around the entire bottle, following the top of the label as a guide. This will leave you with two pieces, the body of the bottle and the top pour end.
3. Remove the label from your bottle and smooth and rough edges with your scissors.
4. Use your black electrical tape and run it around the bottom of your bottle, about 2-3 inches up from the bottom. This will black out the light from the bottom of the bottle.
5. Place your LED light into the bottom of your bottle with the light facing upward.
6. Take the top part of your bottle and invert it into the bottom creating a funnel into container.
7. Use your electrical tape and run four strips down the side of your bottle. Make sure the tape wraps over the top of the container just enough to also secure the funnel into place.
8. Now, your trap is set. Use a pencil or long skewer to turn the light on and set your trap in a dark area where you frequently see stink bugs. They are naturally attracted to the light. By creating the strips of tape down the side, you gave them an easy surface to scale the side of the bottle. Once they hit the funnel, they will fall into the container and not be able to crawl their way back out.
Tip
If you have a wasp problem in your home, then you can create a trap just like the one above. However, instead of an LED light, simply put some sugar water into the bottom of the trap. This will attract the wasps, but once they fly in they are trapped.
