DIY under $10: patio set planter

Here’s a great plant to accessorize an outdoor patio table.

Don’t know what to do with the umbrella that goes right through the middle of your table? For just $9.99 you can create a unique easy-to-care-for plant project that you can put in the center of your table and still put up your umbrella.

You will need

Items I purchased:

• Indoor/outdoor paint — $3.99 at Home Depot

• Succulent plants — $3 each for a pack of four at Lowe’s

Items I already had:

• Potting soil

• Metal Jell-O mold or Bundt pan

Directions

1. If your patio umbrella is already placed inside the center of your patio set remove it for now.

2. Using your Jell-O mold or old Bundt pan, spray paint the outside and inside of the pan with a color that matches your patio furniture. You will want to use an indoor/outdoor specific paint that is good for metal. If you don’t have an old metal Bundt pan or mold, simply go to your local thrift store. There are tons of them available out there and they usually cost under $1 to buy one. You just want to make sure the opening in the center of your pan is large enough to fit the pole of your patio set’s umbrella.

3. Once your mold is completely dry, fill the inside of the ring with your potting soil.

4. Plant your succulents inside the mold.

5. Place in the center of your table and insert your umbrella back in the center of your table and let it go through the center of your pan.

6. Water your plants and enjoy this easy-to-manage decoration that never has to move as you roll up and down your umbrella this summer.
