The tour plays a Kent State University branch campus in New Philadelphia, Ohio, on Tuesday, March 29, and heads from Dayton to Tulsa for two shows Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2.
It’s coming back this way for one night at Ohio University in Athens April 12 (tickets are $22-$30) and will park for two weeks in Paducah, Ky., Feb. 14-26 ($30-$52.50). • The University of Dayton theater program will present the country gospel musical “Smoke on the Mountain” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2; 7 p.m. April 3 and 8 p.m. April 7-9 in the Kennedy Union Boll Theatre. Gina Kleesattel is directing the show by Alan Baily, Mike Carver and Mark Hardwick. General admission tickets are $7-$12.
• Gee’s Bend is officially in Alabama, but it may as well be annexed to southwest Ohio. Last weekend, the Dayton Philharmonic performed Michael Daugherty’s electric guitar symphony “Gee’s Bend,’ which was inspired by the town’s quilting community.
The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, coincidentally, is presenting the regional premiere of the play “Gee’s Bend,” by Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder, through April 9. Go to www.cincyplay.com for more details.
• Theatergoers won’t have to go to New York or even wait much longer for a tour to see the 2010 Tony Award-winning best musical, “Memphis.”
A film of the Broadway production will be shown nationally at 7:30 p.m. April 28, 30 and May 3, and at 12:30 p.m. May 1. Local screenings will be at the Dayton South 16, 195 Mall Woods Drive, West Carrollton, and at the Hollywood Stadium 20 at Fairfield Commons, 2651 Fairfield Commons Blvd., Beavercreek.
