Gem City Jewel: Robert Patterson’s Log Cabin Once Here

In 1775, Colonel Robert Patterson built what may have been the first log cabin in Lexington, Kentucky. His grandson, John H. Patterson, of NCR fame, bought  the cabin in 1901 and moved it to Dayton.

The pieces lay at the corner of Far Hills and Oakwood Avenue for three years. Once the foundation stones were accidently used in building a roadway and had to be taken out again. When rebuilt, only hand tools were used and much of the timber came from the land where the cabin had originally stood. It was completed in 1904.
