Of course, after awhile, the new statement becomes just another part of the door. But every now and then, we pause, re-read and reconsider.
One of my personal favorites is this statement: “Today I will be happier than a bird with a french fry.” I can just imagine a bird happening upon a stray french fry, not a boon the bird could count on or plan for.
So the concept that the image reminds me of is finding joy in the unexpected. Sometimes the unexpected is joyful. And when that happens, we should delight in it.
The quote also implies choice. “Today I will be as happy as ...” We can choose to go into the world with an optimistic attitude, joy in our hearts, and the expectation that today we’ll find at least a moment or two to be as happy as a bird with a french fry.
