Normally at this time of year, the leaves on the trees turn into a different color. In some cases this year, the leaves will instead be turning the same color as the grass.

Scary as that thought might be, what’s even scarier is that there are all kinds of ways to say “boo” to people throughout Butler, Warren and Preble Counties. Here’s our rundown.

Fall attractions

Barn-n-Bunk Fall Festival Weekends: Ohio 73 and Wayne Madison Road, Trenton. Weekends, Sept. 25 through Oct. 31. Includes horse-drawn hayrides, mazes and entertainment. Admission, parking free.

Dream Acres Farm Corn Maze: Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 25 through Oct. 31. 1 to 8 p.m. Saturdays, 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays. 11704 Camden-Darrtown Road, Camden. $5 for adults $3 for ages 6-11. Free for ages 5 and younger.

Howl-O-Fest: For children at Kings Island in Mason. Noon to 5:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Sept. 24 through Oct. 30. Event is free with park admission, $27.99 when purchased online at www.visitkingsisland.com.

Niederman Family Farm: 5110 Lesourdesville West Chester Road, Liberty Twp. 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays, through Oct. 31. Tickets, $9; ages 6 and younger admitted free. Bonfire reservation fee required.

Pumpkin Patch Express: Lebanon Mason & Monroe Railroad, 127 S. Mechanic St., Lebanon. 9:45 a.m., 1 and 4:15 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 2-31. Tickets: $8.50, ages 2-4; $15.50, seniors and ages 5-16; $18.50, adults; and ages 1 and younger are admitted free.

Tom’s Maze: Friday through Sunday, through Oct. 31. 1 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays. $8 general admission

Festivals

Apple Butter Festival: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2-3. Pioneer Farm at Hueston Woods, on Brown Road near Doty Road in Oxford Twp. Admission is $2 for adults.

Country Applefest: Downtown Lebanon. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 25. Admission is free. Crafts, food, bake-off and entertainment.

Minges Pumpkin Festival: 10109 New Haven Road, Harrison. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 17. Free parking. Admission is $5; ages 3 and younger are admitted free. Bands, pie-eating, children’s entertainment and crafts.

Haunts

Blood Trails of Crystal Lake: Two miles of frights, with more than 15 separate scary scenes from dusk until 11 p.m. every weekend in October at 567 Beissinger Road, Hamilton. Admission is $8 ages 14 and older; $5 ages 13-35.

The Chambers of Horror, 1601 S. University Blvd., Middletown (in the former Cambridge Inn building). 8 p.m. to midnight Fridays, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturdays, through Oct. 30. Tickets, $10. Patrons making a canned good donation receive $1 off admission, and goods go to the Hope House.

Dark Pumpkin Haunted Trail: Dark to midnight Fridays and Saturdays, through Oct. 30 at 7039 Preble County Line Road, Germantown.

Ghostly History Walking Tours: ($10 per person) in either downtown Waynesville or in the Quaker Hill area are available on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings in October; no tours will be scheduled during Sauerkraut Festival week, Oct. 4-10. Call the Museum at (513) 897-1607 for reservations.

Halloween Haunt: Various mazes and other haunted attractions at Kings Island. 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25; Oct. 1-2, 8-9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30. Various ticket discounts available ,with prices at $27.99 and $21.99.

Haunted Wood Hayride: Izaak Walton League, 450 Beissinger Road, Hamilton. 7 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 1-31. Hayrides open at dusk, tickets sell through 11 p.m. Tickets, $8; children younger than 3 admitted free. Patrons with canned good donations receive $1 off admission. Goods go to Shared Harvest Foodbank.

Lake Bailee Haunted Hayride Maze and Pub: Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 30, 2070 Jackson Road, Hamilton. $4 for maze, $10 for hayride, $14 for combo.

Land of Illusion Haunted Theme Park: 8726 Thomas Road, Middletown. 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 8 to 11:30 p.m. Sundays, in October. Tickets, $29.95; VIP Fast Pass, $39.95; Sunday admission, $24.95. Haunted Trail closed on Sundays.

Looking into the Unknown: A class on paranormal techniques at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Red Brick Meeting House, 407 High St., Waynesville. Cost is $35. Call (513) 897-1607 for more information.

Ryan’s Tavern Ghost Tours: Sunday evenings, Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 31 at Ryan’s Tavern, 241 High St.
