So how many sheets sets should you save? I recommend one sheet set per bed in your home. Have an extra set or two on hand that fit any of your beds for late night accidents or surprise guests that may crash on your couch for the night.
You really don’t need more than that. The others are just getting in your way.
If you have a hard time parting with your extra linens and comforters, focus on what you’ll gain instead of what you’re losing. You’ll save time, space and money if you part with the extras.
Save time by not folding sheets from your everyday beds. Simply wash and put the same sheets back on the bed they came from. Who likes to fold those corner sheets anyway?
Once you part with the bulky bedspread and the sheets that no longer match your décor, new spaces open up giving you room to organize the items you do need.
For example, getting linens out of spare bedroom closets will allow more space to store your off-season clothing, which creates more room in your everyday closet. Guests will also have more room for their belongings when they visit.
Eliminating extra bedding from the linen closet often frees up space in the bathroom you use on a daily basis. You’ll have more room to stock up on health and beauty products in the linen closet instead of your bathroom cabinets and drawers. This makes it easier to get ready in the morning.
With extra space in the linen closet, you can create a central location to store first-aid items, medicine and toiletries the whole family can access.
You’ll also save money upfront by not purchasing additional sheet sets for every bed in your home.
Area shelters and donation centers would love to have the linens you no longer have a use for. Local animal shelters are also in need of these kinds of items to make the animals they care for more comfortable. Donation centers will provide you with a tax deduction receipt for your charitable donations. Now that’s a win-win for everyone.
If you’re unsure about how much to part with, start by donating just half. Most people find the extra bedding isn’t missed. You’ll benefit from the extra space created by letting them go. Once you start putting this extra space to good use, you’ll have a much easier time parting with the next half.
Don’t hold on to these items because you spent a lot of money on them. You’re not getting your money back by storing them. They’re costing you space.
Won’t it feel good to lay your head down tonight knowing someone else may be doing the same, more comfortably, thanks to your generosity?
