Oasis House ministry seeks donations for its boutique

Oasis House is a faith-based ministry that reaches out to women involved in the adult sex industry — exotic dancers and prostitutes.

Each week, an outreach team from the organization delivers food and messages of hope to women working on the “Dixie Strip” in Harrison Twp.

“We also go into Montgomery County Jail with our Y.E.S. mentoring program,” says Cheryl Oliver, executive director of the organization.

“Many of the women that are involved in the sex industry and human trafficking were childhood victims of sexual abuse and often neglected. Our goal is to promote healing and restoration.”

Oasis House, which offers services ranging from psychological counseling to computer training, is also a member of the Ohio Benefits Bank and partners with other groups, including Montgomery County Crisis Care, CADAS, Nova House and other drug and alcohol recovery programs.

The Oasis Boutique, open to the public, helps support the efforts of Oasis House.

It’s located at 4800 N. Dixie Drive, housed inside of Higher Group Church. The huge room, donated by the church, is stocked with new and gently used items of women’s apparel.

Here’s what they need:

• Women’s new or gently used clothing, particularly size 14 and up. Jeans, casual tops, career wear (pants, skirts, jackets), dresses.

Fashions for any season, including winter, summer, spring. Items should be clean and on hangars if possible.

Shoes of all kinds: gym shoes, dressy shoes, casual

Accessories including scarves, handbags, wallets, jewelry.

Coats, including raincoats

Hats

Children’s and men’s clothing are not accepted.

Oasis House also needs copy paper, toner and folders with pockets and prongs inside.

“We also desperately need volunteers to work in the boutique,” Oliver says. “They can come once a month or more often.”

Items can be dropped off at the boutique during regular business hours from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday or from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month.

The next Saturday on the schedule is Saturday, April 14. Do not leave donations outside of the building.

Donations are tax deductible and tax slips are available.

Incidentally, Oasis House has moved and is now located at the Life Enrichment Center, Suite 308, 309 and 313, 425 N. Findlay St., Dayton.
