A veterinarian at Banfield Pet Hospital said the hot weather will essentially burn off the pads on dogs’ feet within minutes.
The pads on the underside of dogs’ paws act as both feet and shoes at the same time.
Veterianarians in Tulsa expect to see between 10 and 20 dogs with burned pads due to the extreme heat in the region.
They recommend pet owners walk dogs on grassy and muddy areas to avoid serious injury when they take their pets out while temperatures are near 100 degrees.
