Fans offered behind scenes look at Kentucky Speedway

Free festivities include tours and photos with the Quaker State trophy.

If you’ve dreamed of visiting Victory Lane at Kentucky Speedway or if you have lingering questions about last year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup traffic, you can take care of both this weekend at the speedway’s Ford Fan Day.

The event featuring a variety of activities runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and is free.

Among the highlights:

• Tours of the garages, media center, press box, owner’s suite, campgrounds and a new tunnel connecting the speedway to parking fields. The trophy for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400 will be available for Victory Lane photo opportunities.

• A question-and-answer session with general manager Mark Simendinger.

• Racing action from U.S. Legends Cars on the speedway’s quarter-mile track

Trailer races at Kil-Kare: The always popular Trailer Race of Destruction highlights the action at Kil-Kare Speedway tonight.

In the compact division, Riverside’s Bo Hoelscher has an early lead on the field with both feature victories this season. Hoelscher, who finished second in points last year, has won 14 races the past two seasons.

Schrader at Lawrenceburg: USAC and NASCAR racing great Kenny Schrader brings his modified to Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday. An autograph session will be held prior to racing from 5:15 to 6 p.m. in the Kroger Midway. It’s also DARF night, so any Dayton Auto Race Fan club member with a current membership card and ID gets free admission to the grandstand.

Quotable: “You could say it’s like a dream come true to be able to represent the sprint car guys and go out and try to stake our claim at Eldora. It’s going to be quite an honor to be one of the two guys representing the grassroots racers and have the chance to compete with the elite drivers in motorsports.” — World of Outlaws sprint car driver Donny Schatz on competing in the Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway on June 6.

Hot laps: According to its Facebook page, Eldora Speedway is fourth in fan Likes among racetracks in the world behind Daytona International Speedway (526,662), Talladega Superspeedway (138,944) and Bristol Motor Speedway (107,290). Eldora had 94,825 Likes as of Thursday afternoon. ... Shadybowl Speedway hopes to avoid a third straight rainout on Saturday. Track owner Linda Young is keeping her sense of humor about the missed dates. “If April showers bring May flowers, this place should be more colorful than Disney World in two weeks,” she said.
