In Michelle Schneider, the voters have a trustworthy and intelligent candidate. Those who know her personally appreciate how hard she worked over four terms as our state representative. Now, she is running for the Ohio State Senate’s 7th District.
Lately, the negative campaigning against Schneider has startled me because the accusations are distorted. She has become the target of a group immersed in the zero-sum ideology of “our way or the highway.”
Serious debate and consideration of topics of importance are not a part of their narrow ideology, and compromise to achieve good legislative outcomes is out of the question.
Why this angry attack on a fellow Republican? Wouldn’t the party better serve voters by working to increase the number of qualified Republicans in the legislature rather than squandering millions on negative advertising against proven candidates?
Ideological extremism is damaging party credibility and the idea that the party has room for different approaches to problem-solving.
We do not want a narrow ideological minority that has “all the answers” to make all decisions. We need serious, trustworthy, thoughtful, and open-minded legislators. We need Michelle Schneider in the Ohio Senate.
