It’s time to end special treatment based on race, ethnicity

Re the civil service test: Let me put this in “black and white” for those who can’t seem to pass the civil service test. The federal government says that scoring a 66 percent (57 of 86) on one part of the test and a 71 percent (73 of 102) on the other part is not low enough. Really? When I went to school that was a D and a C-minus.

If our nation truly is over racial issues, then let’s take race out of everything. Let’s get rid of the box on every application that we have to check that asks our race. That will be the only way to ensure that those hired or those chosen for a job are truly the most qualified applicants, not the ones who are the right color or nationality.

But don’t stop there — colleges and universities are just as bad. They have quotas to fill as well. They don’t give scholarships to those who achieve the highest or best all the time; they give aid according to racial and nationality quotas as well.

It’s time minorities stopped hiding behind their color or nationality and took responsibility for themselves by expecting more from themselves and less from the government.

Stop the handouts.
