Buck tackles kid
Did you happen to see the AP story last week about a 7-year-old Wintersville, Ohio, boy playing a game of backyard football who was tackled by a deer?
Here’s how it went down: When an errant pass rolled into the woods that border his yard, a buck ran at him and flipped him with its antlers, leaving bruises and a gash.
A 9-year-old pal beat the deer with a stick and scared it off. A Wintersville policeman checked out the scene and said there were actually two bucks in the area preparing for a fight, and the boy was attacked when he inadvertently got between them.
A buck is nothing to mess with. Grown men have been killed by rampaging bucks, and this time of year, when they are mating and fighting other bucks for territory, is not a good time for a human to encounter one. That’s one reason hunters hunt from trees.
