Germantown church to break ground

GERMANTOWN — Members of Germantown United Methodist Church will break ground for their new church building on Farmersville Pike on Sunday, July 12.

The congregation has been busy planning and fund-raising for the new worship and ministry facility since 2001. It should be completed in the fall of 2010. The church is currently located on Market Street in Germantown.

The current church was created by merging two United Methodist churches in 2001, both which had histories dating to the early 1800s, one beginning soon after the village was founded.

The 17-acre location includes walking paths, an outdoor worship center, and a large shelter with meeting space.

The ground-breaking celebration will be at 5 p.m. A church picnic will follow the ceremony.
