YWCA Women of Influence to be honored Thursday

DAYTON — Former Montgomery County Commissioner and community volunteer Paula MacIlwaine will receive a lifetime achievement award at YWCA Dayton Women of Influence Awards Luncheon to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dayton Convention Center, 22 E. Fifth St.

MacIlwaine, a member of the Sinclair Community College Board of Trustees, served on the county commission from 1976 to 1990.

A graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, MacIlwaine was director of National City Bank and President/CEO of Earthwell International Technologies, a Dayton environmental business.

About 80 women applied to be honored as Women of Influence this year. Seven were chosen.

YWCA spokeswoman Karen Dempsey Volke said honorees were selected based on their community service.

“Our honorees are women who support our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women or they are just outstanding community leaders,” she said.

The 2011 YWCA Women of Influence Honorees are:

Channon Lemon: executive director, Minority Business Partnerships/Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce

Beth Mehlberth Whelley: vice president, Fahlgren Mortine

Dr. Martha Moody Jacobs: physician, author, community volunteer

Pam Morris: president and CEO, CareSource

Jeanne Porter: founder and president, Women in Business Networking

Joan Swenson: chief human resources officer, Kettering Health Network
