Man killed in Darke County fire has been ID’d

A man who was found dead in a house fire in New Madison Saturday afternoon has been ID’d.

The Darke County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 69-year-old Rock A. Kiser,

Crews responded to reports of a structure fire around 4:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Jefferson Street, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

“Fire personnel arrived on the scene to find the house on fire, and neighbors reported that the resident was believed to be trapped inside,” the sheriff’s office said.

The man was removed from the house and medics attempted to treat him, but he was declared dead at the scene.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and no other occupants were found inside the residence.

The dead male victim is believed to be the lone resident of the home, the sheriff’s office said.

No injuries were reported.

Cause and manner of Kiser’s death is pending toxicology.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office.
