As commander, she replaced Brig. Gen. Evan Dertien, who had assumed command of AFRL on an interim basis. He returned to the headquarters of Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) as the director of Air, Space and Cyberspace Operations. Dertien has also been nominated for promotion to major general.
Both AFRL and AFMC are based at Wright-Patterson.
A graduate of the Air Force Academy, Pringle is experienced in science and technology development, acquisition program management, program and budget analysis, and installation support. according to the Air Force.
She has also worked with the chief of staff of the Air Force as executive officer, among other roles. She was commissioned in 1991.
As AFRL commander, she is responsible for managing the Air Force’s sprawling $2.5 billion research and technology efforts, with an additional $2.3 billion in externally funded research and development.
She oversees about 6,000 people in the laboratory’s nine component technology directorates and the 711th Human Performance Wing.
Promotion to the grade of major general requires confirmation by the Senate.
