EF1 tornado confirmed in Troy Saturday

An EF1 tornado struck the Troy area on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Damage was found near the intersection of Cheshire and Dorset roads, where large tree limbs were down, the NWS said. Along Armand Drive and McKaig Avenue, more damage could be seen with large tree limbs and trees down.

Most of the concentrated damage was on Drury Lane and Ridge Avenue, where numerous large trees were down and trunks and branches snapped, according to the NWS.

A few houses sustained minor roof damage too, the NWS report said. Other tree damage included at an apartment complex along Red Cedar Drive.

West Simpson Street had a heavily damaged car because of a falling tree limb, the NWS said. Further ahead, Terrace Place, Market Street and West Street revealed damage to a bank sign as well as felled trees and tree limbs.

South of West Street, the tornado had an estimated maximum winds of 90 mph where it is believed to have struck a couple of homes, leaving behind minor roof damage and tree damage as far as southeast as Walker and Dakota streets, according to the NWS.

Other locations in the Miami County sustained tree damage, including Stanfield Road, West Ross Street and Dakota Street.

Straight-line winds with estimated speeds of 60 to 70 mph may have contributed to the damage found, the NWS said.

There were no fatalities or injuries.
