Lebanon teacher goes on ESPN after TikTok goes viral

Lebanon Junior High teacher Josh Chasteen went viral last week after he posted a TikTok video on his account saying that if a professional sports team commented on the video, he would cancel an upcoming test for his students.

A flood of teams responded, including the Detroit Lions, the New England Patriots, the Chicago Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers from the NFL.

The TikTok accounts for several league-wide organizations responded as well, including the WNBA, the NFL, NASCAR and the official Olympics account.

Chasteen, a health teacher, has since canceled the test, which would have been on the muscular system, and posted a follow-up video that showed him rolling out the TV cart.

The video has gotten more than 50 million views and nearly 160,000 comments.

He also made an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter over the weekend, telling the anchors that his students were most excited for the comment from Jake from State Farm.

“I think we were pretty optimistic that one team would comment, but as they started pouring in, it was really pretty crazy,” Chasteen told ESPN.

Chasteen said the school year has been “pretty stressful.”

“Kids have been through a lot, the teachers have been through a lot,” he said. “This time of the year when you have a bunch of tests to take, it’s just a high-stress time.”

He said he had always dreamed of being on ESPN, but said, “I just never thought it would be for a TikTok.”
