Officers on patrol near East Second Street and North Irwin Street heard several shots fired around 8:45 p.m., said Dayton police Sgt. Jonathan Sopczak.
While officers were checking the area, they found Everson dead between two houses.
A 911 caller reported hearing approximately 20 shots, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.
