A 32-year-old Harrison Twp. man arrested on a rape charge after a SWAT standoff earlier this month was indicted Wednesday on numerous weapons charges.

Dustin James Vanwey is charged with two counts of having weapons while under disability for prior drug and violent offenses, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, carrying concealed weapons and a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charge for a May 25 incident, according to a Montgomery County grand jury report.

Vanwey has been in the Montgomery County Jail ever since his arrest following a more than 13-hour standoff that started the afternoon of July 11 at a home in the 5000 block of Wagner Ford Road in Harrison Twp. It ended shortly before 1:40 a.m. July 12 when the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Regional SWAT team took him into custody inside the home.

Investigators originally responded to the house with a search warrant to collect evidence related to a rape allegation, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Vanwey initially was booked into the jail on suspicion of rape, but he has not been formally charged.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 4 for the charges connected to the May 25 case against him.
