Arrest made in fatal Indy hit-and-run crash

A Winchester man is jailed tonight, accused of fleeing the scene of a crash Saturday night that killed one motorcycle rider and sent its passenger to a hospital.

A tip via social media to dispatchers reported spotting a truck that matched the description of a dark blue and gray Ford pickup with front-end damage that was parked in the 600 block of E. North Street in Winchester, Indiana. Police there found the pickup and alerted the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, deputies said.

William E. Caylor admitted to detectives that he was driving the pickup during the crash, according to the sheriff’s department. Caylor was booked into the Randolph County Jail. He is being held on $8,000 bond on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death, which is a felony, deputies said.

A motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene of a hit-and-run crash Saturday night involving a pickup truck.

Dion L. Young, 45, of Ridgeville, Indiana, was driving a 1997 Harley Davidson around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 28 and County Road 100 West when a pickup truck traveling north on County Road 100 failed to yield. Young’s motorcycle struck the pickup truck, when then fled the scene, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.

Young’s passenger, 40-year-old Waynetta R. Whited, was taken to Ball Memorial Hospital in stable but serious condition. Neither were wearing a helmet, investigators said.

The crash remains under investigation.
