Babies left alone while mom went out, police say

VANDALIA — A mother of two young children was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly leaving them alone in an apartment.

Police were called to 525 Thoma Place, Apt. B on a welfare check, where they spotted through a window a toddler sleeping in a bed and inflant awake in a crib. Officers entered the residence and found no one else there.

Officers stayed with the children, ages 10 months and 2 years old, who were later given to Children's Services. Officers reported that fans were on, but the apartment was extremely warm and they turned on an air conditioning unit.

Their mother, Dani R. Eyler, 20, came home to find officers there, according to the police report. She told officers she was only gone for about 15 minutes and had left to go to a relative's nearby home.

Officers writing the report stated he had been there without her for about an hour. The report states that police spoke with a neighbor, who said Eyler earlier had asked him to watch the children while she went to Club Masque, but he declined to babysit.

Eyler was arrested for child endangerment and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
