Blame souse meat, square pizza and Cincinnati chili — Ohioans among fattest

At least 50 percent of residents projected to be obese in 2030

Blame it on the Cincinnati-style chili, square-cut pizza, souse meat, breaded and fried pork tenderloin sandwiches, Polish boy sandwiches, brats, metts, buckeye candy and cheese, glorious cheese.

Ohioans as a group are “large and in charge,” according to recently released data.

This great state ranks eighth in obesity in this great nation, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index.

That said, we are small fries and a Diet Coke compared to folks in seven other states.

With a 35.4 obesity rate, Mississippi had the highest obesity rate in the U.S. in 2013.

West Virginia came in second with a 34.4 rate followed on couch by Delaware with a 34.3 rate.

Montana has the lowest rate in the nation, 19.6 percent.

With our 30.9 obesity rate, Ohioans are overachievers when it comes to packing on the pounds.

Three in 10 adults were obese in Ohio and 10 other states last year, Gallup-Healthway says.

About two in 10 adults were obese in nearly every other state.

Chronic and potentially deadly diseases like cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes are more common in states with higher obesity rates.
