California Truck Driver Accepts Plea Agreement In Shelby Co. Drug Case

A California truck driver is in the midst of a pre-sentence investigation after admitting that he did know he was hauling cocaine to Michigan when he was arrested in Shelby County.

Carlos Garcia, 41, agreed to a plea bargain Thursday, and now awaits a sentencing date.

Garcia was driving a semi through Shelby County along Interstate 75 in mid-January when he was stopped for an improper lane change while he was traveling northbound near the Fair Road exit.

The Ohio State Patrol discovered 25 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $2.5 million.

In court, Garcia pleaded guilty to one count of trafficking in drugs in exchange for the dismissal of a second charge of possession of drugs. He could be sentenced to five years in prison and fined as high as $10,000.

Garcia’s sentencing will come in four to six weeks. He continues to be held in the Shelby County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
