Cedar Point to be closed Monday after storm hits Sandusky

UPDATE @ 9:10 p.m.

Cedar Point will be closed Monday due to severe wind damage to power lines and poles on the Cedar Point Causeway, and a partial power outage that won’t allow the park to operate rides at full capacity, Cedar Point spokesman Tony Clark said.

Crews from Ohio Edison are working to repair power lines and restore full service. Cedar Point and Soak City are expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday, Clark said.

FIRST REPORT

Cedar Point is closing early after a severe thunderstorm with high winds damaged power lines on the Cedar Point Causeway, which is closed.

The park, which sustained a partial power outage, will close at 7 p.m. while Ohio Edison crews work to restore power, said Cedar Point spokesman Tony Clark.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said crews are working to keep residents safe after down wires are reported throughout Sandusky, with cars in a Cedar Point parking lot trapped behind the causeway, CBS affiliate WTOL-TV in Toledo reported.

Clark said park visitors still have access to the Chaussee (Cedar Point Road).
