A Cedarville University student was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after he was stabbed on campus.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. when a male student was stabbed by a female student on the lower level of the Stevens Student Center, according to university officials.

“I need some help over here. There’s been a stabbing,” the 911 caller told dispatchers. “A young lady stabbed another student.”

The caller said the male student was bleeding after being stabbed in his chest, but that he was conscious and breathing.

Campus security and the Cedarville police quickly responded to the incident.

The male student did not appear to have life-threatening injuries. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated and later released.

The female student is in custody and charges are pending.

Jon Wood, vice president of student life and Christian ministries, spoke to students in chapel on Tuesday to address the incident and the level of care toward the campus community, including the two people involved in the incident.

“Please be in prayer for those involved. This is certainly some sobering news to our campus community,” he said. “I want to, first of all, assure you of your safety on our campus that we have a wonderful team of people who are laboring regularly and around the clock for your safety. I recognize this might bring about some difficulties for you to process yourselves, and we’re here for you as a campus community.”

Wood mentioned some of the resources available to students such as reaching out to their resident director to talk or the available walk in hours reserved at the counseling services. Faculty and staff can reach out to University Human Resources for supportive services.

The situation was quickly resolved and there has been no threat to the campus community, the university said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Cedarville Police Department with support of the university’s campus security team.

No other details surrounding the incident were available.
